Listen to Katherine: Don’t buy these lame gifts, mmm K?

We’ve all gotten lame gifts. You tear off the wrapping paper, pry open the box, sift through the tissue paper only to be greeted with a pair of socks. “Uh, thanks Mom,” you mutter.

Ah, lingering memories of receiving the terrible Christmas gift.

Kids are the best when they get a terrible Christmas gift, like a sweater or a puzzle.

“I don’t want this!” shouted my niece last year when she opened a glittery package that held a frilly dress. “I want toys!”

Well, duh!

So, just in case you have any doubts, here is a list of gifts NOT to buy this holiday season. Why? Because they’re lame and no one wants them. Capiche?

1. Snow Globes–Seriously? Snow globes are dust collectors that serve no useful function.

2. Fruitcake– Are you kidding me? Really? Are you freakin’ kidding me? Sure, there are some die-hard fruitcake fans, but the younger gen tends to see this as just lame and gross.

3. Christmas Ties– Not only are these ties corny, but they can only be enjoyed for a few weeks each year. And once you have one that’s enough.

4. Cheap Gift Cards to Expensive Stores–Dude. I’m not impressed. Instead, I think you’re lame. Don’t get me wrong, gift cards can make great gifts, but if you give someone a cheap gift card to a pricey store, it can be more of a hassle.

5. Cutesy Pajamas–Many would agree that past the age of seven, cutesy pajamas just aren’t cool. Personally I love them. In fact, I asked my hubby for a panda Pajamagram last year. But I’m wacky.

6. Candy Canes– Does anyone really like them? And they’re so messy. Skip the canes.

7. Wall Calendars—These days, hanging a calendar on the wall seems a bit passé, especially with computerized calendars and scheduling apps for smartphones. The one exception here: Grandma. She loves a calendar with all the kids and grandkids photos splashed through out.

Happy Holidays!
